babywearing love
The other day I took Kitty to Sam's Club to pick up some things and wore her in the wrap like usual. (Like this or like this, though mine is white with pink embroidered flowers.) Apparently, the late afternoon on a weekday is senior hour. :) We got so much attention from the older ladies! Every single one of them complimented my wrap. They said things like, "She looks so comfortable." And, "I wish I had one of those when my kids were young."
In fact, in all the time I've worn Kitty out and about, I've only ever gotten one ambiguous comment. It was from a slightly cranky looking older woman who looked at me, looked at the baby in the wrap, and then looked at me again and said, "well, that's one way to do it." I can't even say for sure if it was a negative comment. She could have just been one of those people with permanently cranky visages. And twice now, once at HEB and once at Babys R Us, I've had pregnant women excitedly quiz me about it and end up saying they were definitely going to get one of their own. And another time at HEB, an African woman talked to me excitedly for like 10 minutes about how I would fit right in in her country and more Americans need to learn how to use the wrap. It's great. tidbit from school.
"Do you know what is a borreguito? It's a little animal with hair all over it that is curly. And then they cut the hair all off to make... sweater."
This from one of my students (English language learner, obviously) who was earnestly explaining that it was ok if the other students called him borreguito. He does, indeed, have curly, wooly hair. I was tickled. 9.29.2007
Pictures from my phone
Kitty and Theo napping while the workmen replaced the carpet padding. Did I tell y'all about that? Last Monday night, the washing machine overflowed and flooded the hall and part of the living room. Luckily nothing was really damaged. By Tuesday 5pm, everything was back to normal due to emergency maintenance men, industrial fans, and the good graces of the apartment complex's maintenance staff.
Dammit, I think my camera was accidentally zoomed in a bunch so this one is really low res. Beggars (or rather, People Who Allegedly Take Pictures with their Blackberries While Driving 60mph on the Highway, Allegedly) can't be choosers.
But what I really wanted to get a shot of is the logo on the back end. I borrowed this one from the internet, and the one I saw today was exactly like this. Look at that 1983 font!
This is the Roca Wear onesie I didn't buy for Kitty because Theo never texted me back. I think we're going to have to go back for it. It was $4.99.
And as I always strive to protect my daughter's dignity, here is a photo of her in the trunk of my car, where I changed her diaper because we were going straight from the outlet mall to church.
In baby news, she is practicing blowing raspberries and is entranced by catching her feet when getting her diaper changed. She has not yet succeeded in getting her toes in her mouth, though. Also, her newest most charming trick is that if you put her down while she's tired, she immediately sticks her thumb in her mouth and rolls on her side. It's like she's saying, clear as day, "leave me alone! I'm sleepy!" 9.20.2007
My day in photos
Alarm clock goes off. I go in to rouse Kitty just enough to have a morning snack before I get ready and go.
This is where we nurse.
After I put her back down, I take a shower and then sit and have breakfast in front of the sunlamp, checking email.
Before I leave I pack up all the pump parts and collection bottles.
Golly hates to be left behind.
At this point I swear because I know I'm going to be a little bit late for work.
But the sunrise is usually pretty.
This year I park on this side of the building because I've moved into the portables.
This is what my classroom looks like before the children arrive.
I can't include any photos of children, so we're going to start skipping around now. Second period, I sit and pump.
This is my little home base in my classroom. For budgetary and baby-weight-reducing reasons, I bring my lunch instead of eating the lovely cheese covered school lunch. Hence the fridge and micro.
After school there was a faculty meeting. I'm glad this one came out shaky so I don't have to feel bad about posting other people on my blog.
When I get home, I feed Kitty.
Caroline came to visit. Here she is with Kitty on our way out to dinner.
This is where we went.
(Yes, it says Canada. That's because I forgot to take a photo and, um, borrowed someone else's from online. After we get back, Kitty had a bath, which I didn't photograph. Then I feed her again. We do try and get two good feeds in the evening.
Then she goes to sleep, and I sit down here to make this post. Yes, this is another recycled photo. :) The end. |
